چکیده

THE ideal of prophecy is central to the life and works of the religious philosopher and poet Vladimir Solov'ev (I853-I900). Although its importance is generally acknowledged, little attempt has been made to analyse the way in which Solov'ev constructed his ideal and came to be regarded as a prophetic figure in his own right. And yet this subject is of profound interest, not only for our understanding of Solov'ev, but also, in a wider context, for the key contribution which it has made to the view of art as prophecy in the development of the Russian literary tradition. The image of the writer as a divinely inspired prophet, responsible for shaping the spiritual and moral destiny of the nation, began to assume central importance in Russian literature at the time of Romanticism.'
